Conventions of front cover of magazines.

Conventions of front cover

-       Masthead: This is the title of the magazine usually at the top of the front cover.
-       Cover lines: This is the main text on the cover of the magazine which advertises other articles
-       Main image: This is the biggest image on the front cover it’s the photo that is on the front of the magazine that covers most of the page. This is so big because it makes the person look more important.
-       Masking: This is where the image has been cut out.
-       Enlarged quotes: These are quotes that will have been pulled out of an article. This stands out and is very eye-catching, this will bring people in and make people want to buy the magazine.
-       Headlines: main statement on the front of the magazine this is usually very large and will describe the main story.
-       The background of a magazine is usually plain colours to make the image stand out more.
-       Barcode: this is put in a black space which makes it sound like it’s more important.

-       Lures: Often used for marketing.

My music magazine identity and ideology.

My magazine is going to be called Motion. My magazine is going to be a music magazine that covers all types of music, which could be for all audiences as its for all music, but the way its laid out is mainly targeted for younger ages, ages like 15-25. The front cover of Motion will be fun and lively which will draw viewers attention and be eye-catching. Im making the magazine about all music so that there is a wider range of people who read the magazine. Im going to keep he colours mainly the same on each magazine unless its a limited editions magazine. Im going to add headlines of big artists that feature in the magazine to get different people to buy the magazine, this is good as it will increase the overall audience.

Music magazine masthead feedback.

Music magazine masthead feedback

I asked Dan what he thinks of my music magazine mastheads.

Dan’s answer: ‘I think the mastheads are good I like the different colours you have used in the various different mastheads. I personally prefer the first one you did, as I like the use of green and like the simple design to it, I also think the sans-serif font you used created a more simple but professional feel to the masthead’.

I asked my dad what he thinks of my mastheads.

Dads answer: ‘I really like how you have made all your mastheads for different genres of music, personally my favourite one you made was the black one which to me shows rock, I like this because my favourite type of music is rock and think you have done a nice simple design that really shows the genre rock within the masthead’.

I asked my mom what she thinks of my mastheads.

Moms answer: ‘I like the second masthead you made as I like how it resembles dance music and I think the use of bright blue and the font you chose really works well this the genre of dance music’.

I asked my brother what he thinks of my mastheads.

Brothers answer: ‘In my opinion the orange one you made with the white ‘M’ in the circle is my favourite as it’s a very simple design and is really eye-catching, another reason like this is due to how simple but effective it is, it’s a very simple design but really draws viewers attention’.

I asked my sister what she thinks of my mastheads.

Sisters answer:  ‘I like the one you made that has very posh font as it reminds me of ballet which I do and really reminds me of the music I have to dance to, I also like this design as I like the colouring and font and it really fits that genre of music and really works well together’.
